Pelham Public Library looking to hire new circulation manager

PELHAM – Those with a love for literature and who are wanting to build a connection with the community are encouraged to apply for an open position with the Pelham Public Library.

Pelham’s library is looking to bring on a new circulation manager to the staff which will aid in the facility’s daily operations and to help oversee many of the library’s main functions.

The position, as described, would primarily involve working the circulation desk by checking books in and out, issuing new library cards, assisting those in the facility by locating materials, shelving books, managing part-time staff and handling scheduling.

The library has also specified that its desired candidate for the position should have a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates with supervisor experience are also preferred for the position.

The full list of essential duties are listed as follows:

  • Administrates and supervises all tasks at the circulation desk; ensures that procedures are followed, money is properly counted and stored and that stats are properly counted, assists with bank deposits, provides statistics as needed, checks materials in and out, issues library cards and handles hold requests
  • Provides friendly, efficient and professional service to patrons via in-person, by telephone and email
  • Stays current on the library ILS and provides training to new staff as well as keeping staff trained on updates
  • May create training materials for new staff training on the ILS
  • Handles patron issues and complaints with fines and fees, overdue or lost materials, etc.
  • Directs patrons with other issues to the appropriate staff
  • Manages all part-time employees, including their training, supervision and scheduling.
  • Maintains a desk staffing schedule for all library service desks
  • May act as a notary, may assist with programming or outreach, may serve on library or municipal committees
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with others
  • May work nights and weekends
  • Performs other duties as assigned
