HOOVER – The Thompson Warriors continued to gain momentum as they took their second win in a row with a victory over the Spain Park Jaguars on Friday, April 5 on the road at Spain Park High School.

While the Warriors lost four matches in a row entering their final game before spring break, they got a confidence boost in the form of a 7-0 win in area play against Tuscaloosa County on Thursday, March 21.

That meant that after going two weeks without a win, Thompson had two weeks to sit on its latest win ahead of its first match back from break against Spain Park.

The Jags, on the other hand, were searching for a losing-streak snapping result as well after losing each of their last four matches after a shootout win on March 1 against Hewitt-Trussville.

That set up the sides for a county battle at Spain Park as they hoped to earn a key win that they could take back into area play.

Thompson broke the deadlock first as it scored the opening goal of the match to go up 1-0 on the Jags.

Spain Park couldn’t equalize in the time between that goal and the Warriors’ next score as the visitors looked to seal the victory.

Thompson doubled up on its lead before the end of the match to take a 2-0 lead, leaving it up to the defense to finish off the result.

On the defensive end of the field, the Warriors kept the Jags out of the back of the net, securing a clean sheet in the process to seal the victory.

In the end, Thompson claimed a 2-0 win on the road to become winners of back-to-back matches and improve to 10-7 on the season.

The Warriors will hope that the momentum carries them into a big area match against the other team that calls Hoover home: the Hoover Buccaneers in a rivalry showdown on Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. at Thompson High School.

As for Spain Park, it will have a difficult task in its return to area play as it takes on the undefeated Oak Mountain Eagles on the road at the same time as Thompson’s match with Hoover.
