NORTH SHELBY – The Oak Mountain Eagles honored their senior soccer stars in style as their varsity boys and girls soccer teams each won against the Montgomery Academy Eagles on senior night.

Oak Mountain’s girls started the day with a 6-0 win in their final home match of the regular season and the boys wrapped it up with a high-scoring 5-4 victory on Thursday, April 11 at Oak Mountain High School.

In the girls match, Oak Mountain got the first word over Montgomery Academy and scored the opening goal of the contest.

The hosts doubled up their advantage before halftime and kept a shutout on defense to go into the break with a 2-0 lead.

That first-half effort only set the table for an even more dominant second half.

Oak Mountain fired four more goals past Montgomery Academy to keep the visitors at bay and build out a commanding lead.

The shutout continued through the second half as Oak Mountain earned the clean sheet and took the 6-0 victory, improving to 15-5-2 in the process.

Right afterwards, the Oak Mountain boys faced one of the toughest tests to their undefeated season yet.

In a high-octane first half, Oak Mountain and Montgomery Academy traded blows and combined for six goals in the opening 40 minutes.

The teams were even entering halftime as each side had three goals to make the score 3-3 at the break.

While Montgomery Academy scored a goal in the second half, Oak Mountain landed the final blow with two goals to counter the effort from the visitors.

In the end, Oak Mountain prevailed with the 5-4 victory to keep its undefeated record alive at 21-0-1.

After the boys take on Tennessee’s Baylor School on Saturday, April 13 at 6 p.m. at Fort Payne High School, both teams will be back in action on Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. on the road at Hoover High School.
