Woman arrested for allegedly exploiting victim at Alabaster nursing home

 ALABASTER – A Chelsea woman has been charged with financial exploitation of the elderly after allegedly taking advantage of a victim at an Alabaster nursing home.

The Alabaster Police Department has charged Louise Smith Bradley, 63, of Chelsea with financial exploitation of the elderly.

Bradley is alleged to have knowingly and intentionally committed financial exploitation of an elderly person in the first degree on or about Sept. 20, 2023 by taking property that exceeded $2,500, to-wit $16,705.35

According to the APD, the victim’s family reports some discrepancies in financial records as well as  concern regarding staff at the victim’s living facility and Bradley was an employee of The Healthcare Center at Buck Creek at the time of investigation.

Bradley was arrested by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, April 12 and has been released on bond, pending court date.

Financial exploitation of the elderly is a class B felony which is punishable with up to 20 years of imprisonment and up to $30,000 in fines.

“No matter your situation or financial needs, it’s pretty despicable to steal from those who depend on you for their health and well-being,” Alabaster Police Chief Curtis Rigney said.
