HOMEWOOD – The Spain Park Jaguars passed a key milestone in their quest for a perfect season as they came out victorious on the road against the Homewood Patriots.

Spain Park’s 3-0 victory on Thursday, April 18 at Waldrop Stadium in Homewood was its 20th win of the season, taking the Jags unblemished record to 20-0 on the year.

Fresh off clinching the area championship against Hewitt-Trussville on Tuesday, April 16, Spain Park entered the night with just two matches remaining in the regular season with wins in both ensuring the Jags would head into the playoffs with a perfect record.

However, while Homewood hails from Class 6A, the Patriots have proven themselves as one of the top sides in the classification. They entered the match at No. 2 in the latest 6A girls soccer coaches poll thanks to a 13-7-1 record and 6-0 mark in area play.

That set the stage for a big road test for Spain Park with the regular season winding down and the first round of the playoffs on the horizon.

The Jags got off to a strong start as they scored the opening goal, and from there, the visitors never looked back.

Spain Park ended the game with three goals to establish a commanding multi-goal lead over Homewood.

The Patriots couldn’t offer a response to the Jags defense, and that led to another clean sheet for the top team in the state.

With Homewood held at bay by the defense, Spain Park secured the 3-0 win to earn the milestone 20th straight win.

The Jags have just one regular season test to go before the playoffs begin as they will travel to Chelsea on Tuesday, April 22 for a 5 p.m. kickoff, which will also close out area play for the new champions Spain Park.
