SPRINGVILLE – The Chelsea Hornets had to battle some early adversity, but they stormed back to score five unanswered goals to beat the Springville Tigers 5-1 on the road at Springville High School on Friday, April 19.

Just a few minutes into the game, the Tigers made a quick counter-attack towards the goal that caught Chelsea off guard and resulted in the opening goal.

While that goal put Springville up 1-0, it would be its last offense of the night as the Hornets took over the match from there.

A couple of minutes later, Harper Jones hit a chip pass to Max Wever on the attack, and Wever took advantage of the service to volley the ball in for a goal and tie up the match at 1-1.

Chelsea continued to attack from there and set up Parker Dean to give his team the lead just 10 minutes after the Hornets conceded the opener.

That wasn’t all for the first half as Chelsea had one last goal in it before the halftime break. Javier Rivera-Miranda hit Wever in the box, and Wever finished for his second goal of the match and the Hornets’ third of the half.

While Chelsea walked into halftime with a 3-1 lead, it wasn’t satisfied and added to that advantage before the end of the match.

Brandon Cruz connected with Luke Miller on the other end of the pass, and the sophomore teed up from the left side of the box and buried the shot to put the Hornets up 4-1.

Miller nearly got another goal a few minutes later, but Springville saved that effort. However, this time Cruz was there for the rebound and he tapped the ball in for the final goal of the evening, sealing the 5-1 win for Chelsea.

With the victory, the Hornets moved to 17-3-1 on the season and retained its No. 2 spot in the Class 7A boys soccer coaches rankings.

Chelsea will wrap up area play on Monday, April 22 at 7 p.m. against Spain Park at home at Chelsea High School.
