MOUNTAIN BROOK – The Oak Mountain Eagles entered the penultimate match of the regular season on a strong recent run of form after winning both of their last two matches against Montgomery Academy and Hoover.

The Eagles got to extend that winning streak to three straight matches as they went into Mountain Brook High School and took a 2-0 win over the Mountain Brook Spartans on Friday, April 19.

Oak Mountain won three of its last four matches going into the road match at Mountain Brook with the lone loss coming to the undefeated Spain Park Jaguars.

However, the Spartans posed a big threat to the Eagles as they held the No. 1 rank in Class 6A with a 10-3-4 record and got to face Oak Mountain on its own home field.

With the season winding down, the Eagles kept their momentum going by overcoming a key test ahead of the playoffs.

Oak Mountain started off the first half strong and earned the first goal of the match to take a 1-0 lead.

That one-goal advantage held through the halftime break as the Eagles defense kept the Spartans off the scoring column.

Oak Mountain got another goal after halftime to increase the lead to 2-0 in the second half.

After that, the Eagles held Mountain Brook scoreless the rest of the way to secure the shutout victory.

Oak Mountain improved to 17-5-2 on the season with one more match remaining in the regular season before the postseason begins.

The Eagles will look to end the regular season on a high note with their fourth straight victory as they make the short trip to Briarwood Christian School to face the Briarwood Lions on Tuesday, April 23 at 6 p.m.
