ALABASTER – Residents had the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely stroll through the park during lunchtime at the city of Alabaster’s annual Walk in the Park.

The city celebrated Walk at Lunch Day with its third annual Walk in the Park at Patriots Park on Wednesday, April 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with vendors, door prizes and giveaways from local businesses.

“It went great,” said Neal Wagner, public relations manager for the city of Alabaster. “We moved it to a new venue at Patriots Park this year and that allowed us to reach a different audience than we have the past few years at Veterans Park.”

According to Wagner, the annual event takes place each spring in conjunction with National Walk at Lunch Day as a way for the city to encourage its residents to stay active and enjoy the outdoors while learning more about their community.

In addition to encouraging people to get out and moving, those in attendance of Walk in the Park were also be able to visit local fitness and health-wellness-related businesses as well as enjoy a selection of food trucks.

“We were excited to have several local businesses and organizations sign up to have booths at the event, and we had several folks come through and learn more about those organizations,” Wagner said. “It was great to see so many people out enjoying the park during their lunch breaks, and it’s something we’re planning to continue in the future.”

Wagner expressed his gratitude to the Alabaster Parks and Recreation Department for making the event possible and thanked those who took the time to attend this year.

“Thank you to Parks and Recreation for working hard to host events like this for our community throughout the year, and thank you to everyone who came out and made this year’s event a success,” Wagner said.
