ALABASTER – Alabaster youth hoping to take part in the city’s flag football program don’t have to wait much longer as parents can now register on Alabaster’s website through Monday, May 27.

“It’s a sport we’ve seen growing in popularity over the last several years and something we’re glad to provide for the city’s kids,” said Neal Wagner, public relations manager. “It’s a great way for kids to learn the game of football and have a lot of fun while competing with others from Alabaster and surrounding cities.”

Registration is open to boys and girls in grades kindergarten through eighth grade for the 2024-2025 school year and an all-girls division is also available for those in ninth through 12th grade.

“We hope that the all-girls division will attract more females to flag football,” Athletic Manager Nik McCrimon. “Flag football became a sanctioned high-school sport for females about three years ago. As our city grows, our participant number increases. We aim to improve our program and continue giving kids options.”

Registration began on April 29 and is open until May 27 with options for residents to register online or in person at the Alabaster Parks and Recreation Office at 220 Depot Street. Registration is $135 with a multi child discount after the oldest child is paid in full. There is a non-resident fee of an additional 10 percent per child.

All players will be required to have a copy of their birth certificate with the parks and rec department. If individuals have not submitted one before, they may do so by creating an account online and uploading, e-mailing malawley@cityofalabaster.com or delivering in person to the Alabaster Parks and Recreation Office.

There will be 8-10 games played per season with games taking place on Saturdays and home games will be played at Alabaster’s Veterans Park at 7305 Highway 119.
