ALABASTER – In what has become a new tradition, the Alabaster City Council honored the graduating students of city personnel during a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, May 13.

Before handling the agenda during the meeting, Alabaster Mayor Scott Brakefield took time to honor the graduating students of city personnel—a tradition that was started last year by the city’s human resources department.

“We ask a lot of our employees and so we wanted to be able to say a little bit of a thank you and (show our) appreciation (for) the job well done by their kids as students,” Brakefield said.

The complete list of graduating students from each department that the city recognized are as follows:

Administration

• William Binzer – Thompson High School
• Shep Brakefield – Thompson High School
• Wynn Brakefield – Thompson High School
• James Carson Frey – Thompson High School

City Council

• Nora Ellis – Thompson High School
• Sawyer Pate – Auburn University

Fire department

• Ryan Barger – Alabama Fire Department
• John Bessiere – Regional Training Institute
• Jacob Bonilia – Thompson High School
• Russell Lough – Alabama Fire College
• Devarye Mack – Regional Training Institute
• Luke Reid – Thompson High School
• Jake Schniper – Thompson High School
• Caleb Smith – Alabama Fire College

Parks and Recreation

• Avery Lawley – University of Montevallo
• Carter Lawley – Montevallo High School

Police department

• Michael Johnson – Alabama Peace Officers Standard and Training Commission
• Gustavo Perez – Alabama Peace Officers Standard and Training Commission
• Megan Plumb – Evangel Classical Christian
• Sgt. Kevin Summerall – Eastern Gateway Community College
• Greyson Wooten – Thompson High School

Those who were present during the city council meeting were invited to the front to take a picture with the mayor and received a gift bag from the city of Alabaster.

“(I’m) thankful for our human resources department but most notably, thankful for all of our employees that are here (and) for their children,” Brakefield said. “(To the) children, sharing your parents with us—whether your dad or your mom works for the city—they do a wonderful job of helping our city be the best place that it can be and we can continue to try to be the best city in the state of Alabama.”
