ALABASTER – While some residents might not have personally used the services of Wrappermike, they may have seen his handiwork traveling the grounds of Alabaster City Schools or projected against the walls of the newly renovated field house at Larry Simmons Stadium.

The professional vinyl service Wrappermike has made Alabaster its home since 2019 and is located at 1634 Kent Dairy Road suite 400 where Michael Catrett is joined by Matt Holtom and Logan Harwood on a mission to bring a fresh new look to the rides of their customers.

“It’s a very detail-oriented type job, but we’re very detail-oriented type people,” Catrett said.

Wrappermike provides businesses with the chance to place custom advertising on their vehicles in order to attract customers. They also offer custom jobs for any consumers who may want to breathe new life into an old vehicle or enhance a new one.

“We sit down with them and talk about colors and different variations of how they can restyle their car and help them reduce the cost of having it repainted or going out and buying a new car,” Catrett said. “We help them out that way, and we have a good time doing it.”

Catrett got his start wrapping cars back in 2008, around the same time the practice started to gain popularity. After spending some time working in the medium, his profession started to meld with his identity.

“The name Wrappermike actually came from one of my best friends, and it was just the most off the wall thing,” Catrett said.

While working with his best friend one day, he was introduced as Wrappermike and the name stuck. Eventually, the title took on new life when Catrett decided to go into business for himself.

Catrett spent his life savings to start up a business and to purchase a printer and, after his friends joined in to make it happen, Wrappermike in Alabaster was born.

Now, nearly five years later, Catrett and his friends continue to offer their services to help businesses advertise themselves on the go and to help customers give their ride the visual pop they crave.

“It is rewarding,” Catrett said. “It’s a job first and foremost, and I treat it as such.”

The business has started to gain some notoriety for itself after two recent jobs that involved assisting local schools and the city of Alabaster.

The school resource officers for Alabaster City Schools received eight new vehicles earlier this year that sport designs created by students at Thompson High School which were applied by Wrappermike—a job that, when done, left an impression on Catrett.

“That was a really good one,” he said. “It’s probably the only job I’ve ever had where I just sat in the parking lot and watched the first truck leave. I didn’t come up with the design, the kids came up with the designs on those and they did a phenomenal job. But, just seeing it on the truck and watching it leave, it felt good.”

Recently, Wrappermike assisted the city of Alabaster with applying designs, but this time on a building instead of a vehicle. Larry Simmons Stadium has reopened to the public with a new entrance and coat of paint as well as a renovated field house which sports designs installed by Wrappermike. Specifically, the field house features the city’s logo and branding as well as the phrase “home of the warriors.”

Catrett and his staff sometimes find themselves working long hours in order to craft designs and install them for their customers but, in the end, the work is always worth it.

“I’ve never lost that desire to want to wrap a car for somebody,” Catrett said.
