HELENA – With guests jam packed into the stands, residents of Helena donned their blue jeans and cowboy boots for two nights of family fun at Helena Hollow’s inaugural Mother’s Day Weekend Rodeo on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11.

The doors opened for the event at 5:30 p.m., giving families plenty of time to peruse the offerings from craft vendors, enjoy food trucks, ride the mechanical bull and scope out the best seat.

Each night, the rodeo kicked off at 7:30 p.m. with eight different events including saddle bronc, bareback, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie down roping, team roping, barrel racing and breakaway.

In between events, attendees watched replays of all the action on the LED display wall, listened to jokes from the resident rodeo clown and participated in mini-games such as the children’s calf run, where a hoard of children chased down a calf to capture the blue ribbon wrapped around it’s neck.

According to one of the Helena Hollow owners, Amy Griffin, Helena Hollow seized the opportunity to host the event during Mother’s Day weekend.

Griffin shared that she personally doesn’t enjoy being asked what she wants to do every Mother’s Day and would rather her family surprise her with a fun outing instead. This contributed to the decision to offer a big event for the family to enjoy together on Mother’s Day.

“As a mother, I would much rather my family plan something for me,” Griffin said. “We thought this would be a good way for mothers to have something fun to do with their families for the holiday.”

One attendee, Anna Woodall, shared the same sentiment as she brought her mother to the rodeo.

“It think it’s a good event,” Woodall said. “I came for Mother’s Day and I brought my mother with me. I’ve never been to a rodeo like this, but I think it’s a fun event.”

Helena Hollow is an entertainment farm and event venue in Helena that hosts special events throughout the year. Although they are most known for their pumpkin patch, Helena Hollow also has a party barn petting zoo, lakeside pavilion and a Nerf gun battleground obstacle course.
