CHELSEA – The Chelsea City Council approved an estimate for overflow parking at the Highway 11 Sports Complex during a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 4.
“This proposal is for a second parking lot at phase two,” Chelsea Mayor Tony Picklesimer said. “It adds 80 more spaces right behind the existing spaces. It’s very much needed.”
After observing issues with crowding in the parking area for the Highway 11 Sports Complex, the city has worked to find a way to create more spaces to alleviate the issue.
“We’ve already seen when we have a high school game and a little league game going on at the same time—it was a madhouse,” Picklesimer said. “People were parking up near phase one to walk to phase two. So, this will greatly relieve that (and) as a citizen and a granddad I appreciate this very much.”
Chelsea received an estimate for the materials and labor for the project in the amount of $204,665.19 from the city engineer. The estimate is based on the Annual Asphalt Contract on file with the city of Chelsea that includes paving and necessary accoutrements with the paving of the overflow parking area.
During the mayor’s report segment of the meeting, Picklesimer expressed his condolences to the family members of Rodney Davis following his death on June 3.
“I’m sad to report to you that one of the founding developers of the city of Chelsea has passed away,” Picklesimer said. “Rodney was responsible for the development of many of the subdivisions and neighborhoods in our city.”
Picklesimer also shared news during the mayor’s report, alongside Councilmember Casey Morris, on the quality of the new grandstands at Chelsea High School.
“It’s going to be really nice,” Morris said. “We’ve got something to be really proud.”
In other news, the Chelsea City Council approved a resolution to close its Cadence Bank Accounts and deposit balances into the Capital Project Account at Renasant Bank.
The next regularly scheduled council meeting is set for Tuesday, June 18 at 6 p.m. and the meetings for the month of July are currently set for Tuesday, July 2 and Tuesday, July 16.
