PELHAM – Pelham Parks and Recreation will soon host two youth summer volleyball clinics that are set to take place in June and July ahead of the start of the youth volleyball season.

The first of the two clinics will take place on Tuesday, June 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Pelham Recreation Center. The clinic will cost a total of $20 per child and is intended for children who are age 8-12 as of the cutoff date of June 18.

“This three-hour clinic introduces basic skill development of indoor and sand volleyball as we spend time both indoor on the court and outdoor on the sand,” said Will Mayhall with Pelham Parks and Recreation. “(Participants should) bring water, snacks, towel and tennis shoes (and) socks for indoor (areas) and flip flops for after the sand.”

Enrollment for the first clinic began on April 17 and is set to be closed on Monday, June 17.

Those who are unavailable on the date of the first clinic, or who might miss the cutoff date, will have a second opportunity to take part in a clinic when the second one takes place on Tuesday, July 23.

The second clinic will cover the same material and also cost the same $20 per child as the first. This clinic will also have the same age range of 8-12 years old, with an enforcement date set at July 22.

The opportunity to enroll in this second clinic also began on April 17 but will remain open and  available until Monday, July 22.

Both clinics will be run by Birmingham Beach Volleyball, a familiar organization to the Pelham community which primarily focuses on the sport of beach volleyball and extending a “family friendly atmosphere with beach vibes that extend from the beach to Pelham, Alabama.”

Both clinics will take place ahead of the youth volleyball summer season which runs from August to October this year. Pelham’s youth volleyball program includes students who are entering grades 3-6.

The registration period for the season opened on June 3 and enrollment is set to close on Monday, Aug. 12.

“This program emphasizes the basic fundamentals of the sport and emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship and fun,” read a description of the program by Pelham Parks and Recreation. “Practices will be Mondays and Thursdays. Games are played against Pelham teams.”

Registration for the summer season will cost $90 per students, with a $10 and $15 discount applying if a parent is registering two or three or more children.

Registrations for both clinics and the youth volleyball season can be found online at Pelhamrec.recdesk.com/Community/Program?category=3.
