MONTEVALLO – Currently ongoing, the American Village Summer Film Series continues to exhibit films that highlight elements of American history while also offering the chance to take part in an energetic chance for community fellowship.

Having started on the last Friday in May and taking place every other Friday night, each night’s gathering takes place on American Village’s Constitution Green with film presentations following at the West Wing Theatre. Events start at 5:30 p.m. each night with films beginning at 7 p.m.

Admission to the event is free and guests will also be treated with live music and a list of beverages that will include a selection of local wines and craft beers paired with pre-show live music and food.

The series’ next entry on Friday, June 14 will showcase the 1994 drama film, “The War.” Starring Kevin Costner and Elijah Wood, the film tells the story of an American war veteran attempting to overcome the trauma and lasting mental effects received from his experiences during the Vietnam War.

Food trucks for this Friday’s entry will be Nettie B’s Grill and Frios. Musicians Heath Green and Adam Guthrie will serve as the event’s live music and entertainment.

With this and three other showings left to go this summer, all in the community are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket or foldable chair and enjoy the event with friends and family.

Event attendees have already enjoyed one film so far, with the series’ opening act, “Taking Chance,” which drew a sizeable turnout in the community.

Taking place just days before the Fourth of July holiday, the following showing on Friday, June 28 will present the 1972 film “1776,” which is a musical rendition of the historic events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence told through the lenses of a comedy drama.
