Leadership Shelby County alumni are working to make a difference.

Graduates representing 12 years of Leadership classes gathered following the graduation of the class of 2006 last week.

Alumni Board co-chairmen Robin White and Susan Johnston, graduates of Shelby County&8217;s first leadership class in 1995, presided over the meeting.

White explained the vision of the alumni group.

&8220;To foster the goals and purposes of Leadership Shelby County by networking and informing and educating our graduates about the issues and challenges that face Shelby County,&8221; he said.

He said the goal of the group was to use the experience gained during the program to continue to enhance the quality of life in Shelby County.

One item of immediate use to the alumni group, Johnston said, was the new Leadership Shelby County website.

The website will &8220;provide a resource of involvement opportunities for graduates.&8221;

Alumni membership lists will also be featured on the site, www.leadershipshelbycounty.org.

In addition, the board has planned a Reconnect Day on Oct. 10 for all Leadership graduates and plans are under way to continue these quarterly learning and networking meetings.

Johnston said these meetings will allow graduates &8220;to connect with the LSC organization, with their classmates and with what&8217;s happening in Shelby County.&8221;

Another board idea was Service Days throughout the year for graduates to participate in making a difference in Shelby County.
