Asbury United Methodist Church began in 1986 with four adults and. two children.

Twenty years later Asbury is one of the largest churches in the Birmingham area, with a membership of nearly 2,200 and an average Sunday attendance of 1,250 people.

The church is led by senior pastor Mark Lacey and currently has a staff of 26 people serving its members and the local community.

&8220;Asbury United Methodist Church has a dynamic future before it,&8221; Lacey said. &8220;The church is vibrant, alive and filled with the joy that Christ has promised us.&8221;

The church moved to its current location on Highway 119 in 1994 after out quickly outgrowing its old home.

Asbury&8217;s vision is to have 100 percent of it members attending a small group study, making a financial contribution and having an average worship attendance of 2005 people each week.

Asbury members spend a good amount of hours in the local community, ministering to the needy and helping to improve peoples&8217; way of life.

&8220;We are committed to reaching out to others in the role of servanthood,&8221; Lacey said.

&8220;Asbury supports many causes that further the love of Christ in our community, however, we also believe in &8220;hands-on&8221; ministry that takes us to many different places.

From Helena to Eldoret, Kenya, we go where God calls.&8221;

The church offers numerous adult, youth, children and senior ministries throughout the week.

&8220;Being an active part of a community of faith that enables us to know Jesus Christ in an intimate way is essential to our overall health and well being,&8221; Lacey said.
