Oak Mountain 51, Spain Park 44: The Eagles improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in Region 6 after downing the Jaguars off a huge night by Tyler Gallimore. Gallimore finished the night with 19 points and four assists while Andrew Chesney had 14 points and Thomas Nordyke had eight points in the win. Jonathan Hall led all Jaguars with 20 points. Oak Mountain hosts Hoover Friday before playing in the Shelby County tournament and the Pelham tournament over the holidays.

Oak Mountain 49, Pelham 42: Justin Luquire led the Eagles past the Panthers with 13 points and five rebounds while Justin Nordyke had 10 points. Tyler Gallimore also had nine points for Oak Mountain and Michael Adams led the Panthers with 20 points.

Cornerstone 76, Coosa Valley 50: Dustin Shears hit five three-pointers and scored 21 points to lead the Chargers past the Rebels. Jonathan McKinney had 19 points and three three-pointers while Ty Youngblood had 14 points in the victory. Coosa Valley will host a Christmas tournament Dec. 17-18.

Cornerstone 46, Shelby Academy 41: Ty Youngblood helped pace the Chargers past the Raiders with his 18 points.

Cornerstone head coach Tim Smith credited his defense with the win over the Charger’s area foe.

&uot;Ty stepped up in the second half when we needed him and Jamal (Prentice) hit a couple of crucial free throws at the end,&uot; Smith said. &uot;Our (defense) is pretty good but we must shoot the ball better to compete in our area.&uot; Dustin Shears also had eight points for the Chargers. Cornerstone will play in the Coosa Valley Christmas tournament Dec. 17-18.

Shelby County 74, Calera 64: Cortez Cotton, despite missing some of the second half due to foul trouble, had a huge double-double for the Wildcats, scoring 32 points and pulling down 12 rebounds in the win. Brandon Burns had 12 points and six assists for the Wildcats while Jason Harchuck had nine points. Josh Dikis also came up big for the Wildcats, nailing two late three-pointers to give Shelby County the lead for good.

George Drake and T.J. Green led the Eagles with 19 points while Trey Russell contributed 14 points in the loss. Calera will play at Shades Mountain Friday and host B.B. Comer Saturday before playing in Shelby County and Pelham tournaments over the holidays.

Spain Park 45, Vestavia Hills 42 (OT): Jonathan Hall helped pace the Jaguars to their first win of the year with his 11-point effort. The Jags were able to outscore the rebels in overtime off a strong defensive effort.

Briarwood 44, Oxford 40: Charles Hoke led all Lions with 25 points and seven rebounds as Briarwood improved to 7-1. Larry Hedden had seven rebounds and eight assists in the Lion’s victory.

Bessemer Academy 72, Coosa Valley 59: Corey Goodson’s 21 points were not enough as Bessemer Academy cruised to victory over the Rebels (3-6).

Thompson 48, Vestavia Hills 46: Michael Hall nailed the game-winner with two seconds remaining to lift the Warriors (4-4) past the Rebels. Hall finished with 12 points while Gary Cunningham led all Warriors with 17 points. Thompson will travel to Shades Valley Thursday and host Mountain Brook Saturday before playing in the Shelby County and Shades Valley tournaments over the holidays.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Chelsea 61, Holt 2: The Chelsea girls scored one of the most lopsided victories in school history Friday, holding Holt to just two points. Melissa Beard led the Hornets with 14 points, Charlie Bowman had 11 points and Adrienne Alaniz pulled down six rebounds in the win.

Montevallo 51, Vincent 32: Senior Samantha Spradlin helped pace a Bulldog defense that forced 34 turnovers in Montevallo’s victory over the Yellow Jackets. Spradlin scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Bulldogs. Candice Fields also had a big night for the Bulldogs with 10 points, seven steals and seven rebounds while Haley Dennis dished out six assists.

Vincent 52, Fayetteville 45: The Yellow Jackets secured their first win of the season as LaPorsha Bundrage scored 16 points in the win.

Vincent 45, Holy Family 43: The Yellow Jackets (2-6) held on to keep the Holy Family winless off the back of LaPorsha Bundrage and Cassie Cohill. Bundrage finished with 11 points while Cohill had eight in the victory. Vincent will play in the Fultondale, Shelby County and Shades Mountain tournaments over the holidays.

Montevallo 75, Oak Grove 48: Samantha Spradlin posted a career high 26 points and 13 rebounds as the Bulldogs opened region play at Susie DeMent Gymnasium. Haley Dennis also had a big night for the Bulldogs, scoring a double-double with 12 points, 12 assists and eight steals. Candice Fields also had 10 points in the Bulldog victory. The Bulldogs forced 51 turnovers against the Tigers.

Montevallo 58, Bibb County 43: After posting a 30-11 halftime lead, the Bulldogs saw their lead cut to three in the third quarter but Candice Fields’ double-double was enough to lead the Bulldogs to victory. Fields finished the night with 17 points and 17 rebounds while Lakeisha Brown also had a double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds. Samantha Spradlin also added another double-double to her season with 11 points and 14 rebounds. The Bulldogs host Tarrant Friday before playing in the Shelby County and Calera Christmas tournaments over the holidays.

Vestavia Hills 50, Spain Park 34: Lauren Dunning had nine points to pace the Jaguars as the Rebels proved to be too much and improved their record to 8-1.

Oak Mountain 50, Spain Park 46: Anna Cramer helped pace the eagles (7-4) to victory with 18 points while Ashley Stolze and Ashley Brown added 10 points apiece. Sharidan Hollis led all Jaguars (8-2) with 16 points. Oak Mountain plays at Pinson Valley Friday before playing in the Shelby County tournament over the holidays. The Eagles will also host a Christmas tournament Dec. 29-30.

Oak Mountain 49, Pelham 38: Janet Wilkerson and Anna Cramer paced the Eagles to victory with 18 points apiece. Dakita Johnson led all Panthers with 25 points.

Calera 75, Shelby County 25: Shanavia Dowdell scored more than half the Eagle’s points with her 42-point effort. The Eagles improved to 4-0 while the Wildcats fell to 1-5. Leah Bland led the Wildcats with 14 points. The Eagles travel to Shades Mountain Friday before hosting B.B. Comer Saturday. The Wildcats will play in the Shelby County tournament Dec. 18-23.

Leeds 55, Indian Springs 30: Sophie Cooper led all Indian Springs players with 13 points, but it wasn’t enough as head coach Hunter Gray’s girls fell to 2-5.

Indian Springs 47, North Side 25: Hunter Gray’s Indian Springs girls improved to 3-5 as Sophie Cooper scored a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Emma Dinsmore also had 10 points for Indian Springs. Indian Springs will host St. Clair January 8.

Coosa Valley 59, Bessemer Academy 39: Kimberli Rutledge posted a double-double as the Rebels from Coosa Valley downed the Rebels from Bessemer. Rutledge finished the night with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Coosa Valley 58, Jefferson Christian 56: The Rebels won a thriller off the outstanding play of Molly Brasher, who finished the night with 16 points and 23 rebounds. Kim Rutledge also had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds while Kirby Johnson finished the night with 15 points,

Shelby Academy 43, Cornerstone 30: Kimbrell Lee helped pace the Raiders over the Chargers with 17 points while Kendra Bristow added 11 points. Marybeth Willis led all Chargers with 13 points.

Vestavia Hills 50, Thompson 39: Tamara Williams led the Warriors (5-4) with 16 points while Nicole Lowery had seven points. Thompson travels to Shades Valley Friday before hosting Mountain Brook Saturday. The Warriors will also play in the Shelby County and Lauderdale County tournaments over then holidays.

Hoover 63, Pelham 46: Carla Jennings led the Panthers with 14 points while Jennifer Weems posted 10 points in the Panthers loss. The Panthers play at Vestavia Friday before playing in the Shelby County tournament over the holidays
