Former Oak Mountain High School soccer standout Merritt Mathias has transferred from the University of North Carolina to play for the Texas A&M women’s soccer team.

Mathias, a forward who played in 39 matches for the Tar Heels in two National championship seasons, scored three goals and recorded an assist during her two-year career at North Carolina. Mathias will be eligible to play for Texas A&M this fall.

Mathias was a Parade All-American as a senior at Oak Mountain in 2008.

Texas A&M will play North Carolina in its regular-season opener Aug. 20.
