The Hoover Fire Department is helping to send child burn patients to Camp Conquest, an annual Children’s Hospital camp.

The Hoover Fire Department Nov. 24 presented $13,000 to Children’s Hospital specifically for helping children attend Camp Conquest.

The money was raised from the Hoover Fire Department Golf Tournament held in October at the Inverness Country Club.

“The Hoover Fire Department is thankful for the tremendous support we received for the inaugural Hoover Fire Department Golf Tournament,” said Hoover Fire Chief Chuck Wingate in a press release. “We are pleased to present Children’s Hospital with $13,000, which will go towards Camp Conquest and provide an opportunity for more children who have suffered serious injuries from burns to attend camp next year.”

Scotty Roberson, Divisional Director of Critical Care at Children’s Hospital, said the Hoover Fire Department’s donation is just another example of how Hoover has consistently helped the hospital.

“The city of Hoover and Hoover firefighters have been supporters of Camp Conquest from the beginning and have been great community partners as we grow our camp and the services we can offer,” Roberson said. “Their enthusiasm, hard work and passion for burned children help make the camp what it is — an amazing and worthwhile investment in the lives of these kids.”

The Children’s Burn Center is the only pediatric burn center in Alabama and one of the largest in the Southeast. The Burn Center is funded entirely by donations.

Camp Conquest is a four-day camp at Children’s Harbor on Lake Martin. The camp is for children ages 6-16 who have been patients at Children’s Hospital.
