A 20-year-old Alabaster man who was charged with manslaughter and first-degree assault in an early 2013 wreck on Shelby County 26 is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 5 after his case was continued recently.

Drew Alexander Graham originally was scheduled to appear for a hearing in front of Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Dan Reeves on Sept. 3, but his court date was instead continued to Nov. 5, according to court documents.

Graham appeared in the courtroom wearing an orange Shelby County Jail jumpsuit on Sept. 3, but was transported back to the jail after his case was continued.

In June, Graham pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect to the charges on June 4, according to Shelby County Circuit Court Supervisor Jill Smitherman.

Graham was arrested on the charges and booked into the Shelby County Jail on Jan. 30, and currently is being held there on bonds totaling $100,000.

Graham was involved in a Jan. 16 wreck on Shelby County 26, which happened at about 11:20 a.m. just south of the Saginaw Volunteer Fire Department, according to the Birmingham Highway Patrol office.

According to the Highway Patrol wreck report, Graham’s 1996 Ford Explorer collided with a 2004 Ford Escape driven by 39-year-old Columbiana resident Karen Lewis. Lewis was killed in the wreck and her passenger, a juvenile, was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment.

According to a complaint filed with his arrest warrant, Graham allegedly caused the wreck when he drove his vehicle into the wrong lane and collided head-on with Lewis’ vehicle.
