The Vincent Yellow Jackets made sure their visit to Pleasant Valley Sept. 13 was a not-so-pleasant experience for the Panthers, taking a 46-38 win.

The game was a back-and-forth offensive showing, with the Yellow Jackets opening up the game by scoring on a 63-yard touchdown pass from Michael Gilham to Jace Green. The tandem hooked up again for the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.

The next Jacket score came when Rodney Groce ran it in from 11 yards out. Groce also took in the two-point conversion.

Groce scored again, this time on a 17-yard run. The two point conversion was no good.

For each touchdown Vincent racked up, Pleasant Valley answered with one of its own, as the Panthers took a 22-21 score headed into the half.

The Panthers scored again to begin the second half. Vincent answered when Gilham hit Ryan Kelow for a 29-yard touchdown pass. Kelow took in the conversion in for two.

Each team’s next drive stalled out, and the Yellow Jackets were able to get on the board when Jay Hamilton scooped up a fumble deep in Panther territory, returning it 14 yards for a score. Kelow converted for two points.

The Yellow Jackets found themselves tied at 38 with six minutes to go in the fourth quarter when Quartez Walker broke a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Gilham hit Green for the two-point conversion, and Vincent held a 46-38 lead. The teams traded the ball twice more, with Pleasant Valley on the Vincent 35 and driving when time expired, giving VHS a 46-38 win.

“Pleasant Valley played great,” said head coach Jason Hill. “I give them a ton of credit. I think it gives our guys confidence.”

Gilham finished with 282 yards passing and two touchdowns. Groce and Kelow had 38 and 16 yards rushing, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Ranburne Sept. 20.
