FROM STAFF REPORTS

Coming into the Sept. 17 road match with the UAH Chargers, the Montevallo women’s soccer team was still looking for its first win of the 2013 season. Although the Falcons outshot the Chargers 33-10 in the contest, Montevallo had to battle back in the second half just to send the game into overtime. After two overtime periods, neither team was able to put another goal on the board, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Chargers jumped out to a quick start in the game. At 7:16, Sydnie Fiocca registered the first goal of the contest. Her goal was assisted by Iris Gunnarsdottir.

Montevallo responded to the early UAH goal, when freshman Michaela Graber recorded the first goal of her young collegiate career at 23:38. In total for the game, Graber had four shots on goal, which is only one less than the entire UAH team was able to manage.

At 30:36, the Chargers regained their one goal lead when Jillian Young scored. The 2-1 lead for UAH would hold until halftime.

When looking to tie it up in the second half, Montevallo depended on their prolific goal scorer: Jade Pennock. Pennock recorded her third goal of the season to tie the game up when she was awarded a penalty kick at 84:41.

The Falcons are now 0-2-2 on the season. They start conference play on Sept. 21 when they take on UNC Pembroke at Varsity Field.
