Second fatality confirmed in County Road 11 accident

PELHAM— The Pelham Police Department confirmed another fatality related to the July 8 tanker truck accident on County Road 11. A report released July 23 announced the death of 41-year-old David Shannon Ramey, the driver of the 18-wheeler involved in the accident.

After being pulled from the tanker truck by first responders, the Crane Hill resident was transported to UAB Hospital in critical condition. According to the report, investigators were monitoring Ramey’s condition at UAB Hospital every couple of days since the collision.

Investigators were informed July 23 that Ramey passed away early July 22 due to his injuries. Chief Larry Palmer and the Pelham Police Department extended sympathies to the family of Ramey and the continued prayers for the family of 18-year-old James Bradley Ferguson of Chelsea who also lost his life in the accident.

Pelham police and fire departments were notified at 6:45 a.m. on July 8 of the traffic collision. The preliminary investigation revealed that a southbound Honda Accord crossed the centerline of County Road 11 and the vehicles collided in an almost head-on collision.
