The Hoover Police Department arrested Montevallo resident Martin Harlow Wood and charged him with three felony counts of attempted murder. He currently is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.

At about 12:23 a.m. two Hoover police officers pulled over a female motorist on U.S. 31 near the Alabama 150 intersection. The pair of officers and the motorist were standing near the officers’ patrol cars when police said Wood allegedly drove through the intersection in a black Nissan Xterra and fired “at least five shots” at the three victims.

No injuries were reported in the shooting.

Other Hoover officers who were near the scene of the shooting spotted the fleeing vehicle and stopped it near the intersection of Lorna Road and Rocky Ridge Ranch Road.

During the stop, police took Wood into custody and allegedly recovered a 9-millimeter pistol from his vehicle.

Attempted murder is a Class A felony, according to Alabama law. If convicted, Wood could face up to life in prison.
