“Public libraries have been around since the early 1800s and yet this public service is often overlooked and underutilized. We have a marvelous resource in our library, so by creating a logo that easily identifies the Jane B. Holmes Public Library, we hope to improve the visibility of this service in Helena and ultimately reach out to more of our citizens,” said Library Board President Brian Peters.

At the library’s birthday party/book sale on Sept. 17, the community will be asked to vote for their choice for the new logo by placing donations in the jar that corresponds to their preferred design.

“We are fortunate to have Laura Joseph on the Library Board and as a great supporter,” continued Dearing. “We appreciate her hard work in designing our new logo and we hope to use it in our future marketing materials.”

“We began with over 40 ideas and narrowed them down to the two that we felt best communicate our message: Tradition Meets Technology,” said Joseph, who serves as secretary for the library board.

Each logo was presented to a panel (Library Board members, Friends of the Jane B. Holmes Public Library, library employees and library patrons) in four color ways plus black/white. They chose the two logos pictured here.

“The blocks logo symbolically communicates the building blocks of learning (books, DVDs, videos, periodicals, computers) that are available at our local library,” elaborated Joseph.

“As a mom, I also thought this logo would appeal to several of our library patrons, many of whom have children and families. The lively color palette makes the library approachable and expresses that the library is a family-friendly place where you can read for education and for fun.”

“If you look closely, the ‘open book’ could also be a laptop,” Joseph noted.

“The tablet/book/burst logo visually expresses tradition and technology and variety of resources available at our local library.”

Which will Helena residents choose? Come vote on Sept. 17!
