Sept. 18

Briarwood beats Auburn to return to .500

The Lady Lions got a key win against a scrappy Auburn team on Friday night to move their season record to 8-8 with a four-set win, 25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-19. Alex O’Brien had 11 assists and two aces in the match while Sophie Muir-Taylor had 11 kills, three digs and two blocks. Taylor Moore had seven aces and nine digs on the day as well.

 

Oak Mountain wins two in Eddie Pruiett Tournament

Oak Mountain defeated Cullman 25-19, 25-18 and Sparkman 25-17, 25-23 on Friday night. Cameron Rueschenberg had 13 kills, two aces and 19 digs while Kathryn Beard had 14 assists, two digs and an ace in both games to lead the way for the Lady Eagles.

 

Sept. 19

Oak Mountain goes 3-1 in second day of tournament play

The Lady Eagles picked up right where they left off on Saturday, Sept. 19 in the second day of the Eddie Preuitt Tournament and finished the tournament with a 5-1 record. Oak Mountain defeated Pelham 17-25, 25-21, 15-9; beat Danville 24-26, 25-19, 15-9; and beat Randolph 25-18, 25-19 to start the day. The Lady Eagles then fell to Madison Academy in two sets, 25-20, 25-23 to be eliminated from the tournament.

 

Kingwood JV wins annual tournament

The Kingwood Lady Lions junior varsity team advanced to 14-0 after beating Morgan Academy, Cornerstone Christian and Bessemer Academy twice to win the Rug Rat Jr. Tournament. The Lady Lions did not drop a single set the entire day and were led by Kirsten Boyd, who tallied 73 assists, 15 kills and 15 aces on the day and Natalie Watts, who raked in 74 kills, four aces and four blocks.

 

Sept. 22

Chelsea stays perfect in area play

The Chelsea volleyball Lady Hornets moved to 10-11 on the season and 3-0 in area play with a straight-set win over Oxford on Tuesday evening. Chelsea won 25-22, 28-26, 25-23. Jules Hamer, Lexie Riggins and Jordan Legg led the way for Chelsea on the night; Hamer had 11 kills and four blocks, Riggins had 21 digs, seven kills and three blocks while Legg had 19 assists and eight kills.

 

Spain Park gets area win over Vestavia

The Lady Jaguars continued their mid-season renaissance with a five-set win over Vestavia on Tuesday night. Spain Park won the match 25-15, 17-25, 25-20, 27-29, 16-14 in a tightly contested match. Spain Park has now won three of its last four and is now 5-9 on the year.

 

Oak Mountain moves to 20-7 with win

The Lady Eagles eclipsed the 20-win mark on Sept. 22 with a three-set win over area foe Tuscaloosa County. The Lady Eagles took care of business 25-15, 25-13, 25-23 to move to 20-7 on the year.

 

Briarwood gets beat by Homewood

Briarwood slipped to 8-9 on the season with a three-set loss to Homewood in area play on Tuesday night. Homewood defeated Briarwood 25-16, 25-19, 25-21. Taylor Moore had 11 digs while Sophie Muir-Taylor had five kills and six digs for the Lady Lions.

 

Thompson falls to Hoover

The Lady Warriors fell to 9-10 on the season with a straight-set loss to Hoover on Tuesday night, 25-17, 25-18, 26-24. Jenni Beth Cox had 22 assists and three aces on the night while Milea Ray had 12 kills to lead the way for Thompson.

 

Montevallo takes care of West Blocton

The Lady Bulldogs of Montevallo came through on Tuesday night with a straight set win against West Blocton.
