MT LAUREL—The Cahaba Valley Fire Department responded to an afternoon fire at a Mt Laurel business that injured one civilian on April 19.

The Cahaba Valley Fire Department received a call about a fire at Main Street Florist at 3:55 p.m., fire department public information officer Grant Wilkinson said.

The fire department contained and extinguished the blaze in 20 minutes with only minor water and smoke damage to the building, Wilkinson said. The fire was localized and contained on the roof of the 38 Manning Place business.

“It was on the roof of the building, and it was contained to the roof of that building,” Wilkinson said.

One civilian was reportedly injured in the blaze before the Cahaba Valley Fire Department arrived on the scene. The male victim was transported to UAB hospital with burns to the torso and arms, Wilkinson said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Chelsea and Hoover fire departments assisted the Cahaba Valley Fire Department in extinguishing the blaze.
