PELHAM— Crosscreek Community Market kicked off June 6 on its new day at 5:30 p.m. in Pelham as dozens of residents flocked to see the long-awaited local produce, craft and food vendors.

In it’s third year, Crosscreek Baptist Church’s market saw many repeat vendors, such as Penton Farms out of Chilton County, Art Creations By Jess and That’s So Posh handmade jewelry.

“We really like it here,” said Courtney Penton of Penton Farms. “We didn’t sell quite as much, but we really liked the people here. It’s just another market to sell, and we don’t have any other ones on Monday so it’s pretty convenient for us.”

Penton Farms sells a wide variety of produce, including cucumbers, squash, beans, peppers, strawberries, peaches, watermelon and more. As the only vendor selling fresh produce at the market, Penton said she heard many positive responses from attendees of the market.

Although she didn’t work last year’s market until the end of the season, Penton said she still met several people and vendors she liked.

Sheri D. Hicks, of That’s So Posh, agreed that the people at the market make Crosscreek a special place. After having to cut her season short last year because of a kidney transplant, Hicks said she’s excited to be back.

“It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve met a lot of people from the church and other people from the community,” Hicks said. “It’s just kind of a fun afternoon.  (People) come by, have some food and they visit with us and purchase some things.”

Hicks creates jewelry using all natural stones or pearls, and she utilizes sterling silver wiring in her pieces so they are hypoallergenic. She said her favorite thing is helping people surprise loved ones with gifts for anniversaries or birthdays.

Saltbox Oils and Sewing, 3^rd Life Baking and Pops Neighborhood Grill were also at the market, among others, providing a wide variety of items for attendees to peruse.

The market will run every Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Crosscreek Baptist Church’s parking lot, 600 Crosscreek Trail.
