PELHAM – Pelham’s Zoning Board of Adjustment approved a variance Tuesday, Aug. 2, that will allow HealthSouth’s new physical rehabilitation center to be located 30 feet from the property line instead of the 50-foot minimum required by city ordinance.

The board approved the variance for property located at Lot 14 Oak Mountain Commons, which is near Shelby County 52.

In July HealthSouth announced plans to develop a 44,230-square-foot, 34-room physical rehabilitation center in Pelham. The facility will provide services to patients who have experienced stroke, trauma, brain and orthopedic injuries, as well as other major illnesses or injuries.

Once fully operational, the $25 million investment is expected to generate about 85 new full-time jobs.

The board also approved a 15-foot variance requested by Oak Mountain Business Park LLC for property located at Lot 6-A. Del Clayton, who submitted the request, said the lot was recently sold, but was unaware of what business is set to occupy the land.
