NORTH SHELBY – A public hearing is planned for Thursday, Oct. 13 to seek public input about a proposed extension of Cahaba Beach Road in North Shelby County.

The project would extend the road from Swan Drive in Shelby County to Sicard Hollow Road in Jefferson County, including a bridge over Little Cahaba River near the Shelby-Jefferson county line.

Cahaba Beach Road, which on the southern end is an extension across U.S. 280 of Valleydale Road, currently ends at Little Cahaba River.

There is a northern part of Cahaba Beach Road that begins at Sicard Hollow Road and runs south to the river.

The “public involvement meeting” will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13 at First Christian Church, which is located at 4954 Valleydale Road, Birmingham.

Another public meeting was scheduled for Oct. 11 at Liberty Park Middle School in Vestavia Hills.

Shelby County and the Alabama Department of Transportation are conducting engineering and environmental studies related to the road project.

The purpose of the meetings is to “provide interested parties with an opportunity to provide input regarding the project and share their views and comments regarding potential impacts,” according to a release from ALDOT.

Representatives of ALDOT, Shelby County and consultants will be available to answer questions about the project at the meeting.

Also, preliminary maps showing potential alternatives will be available for review.

Comments, which will become part of the official project record, may be made at any time prior to, during or within 10 days following the meeting. A recorder will be available for anyone wishing to leave recorded verbal comments.

Written comments may be left at the meeting, mailed or emailed to:
