Members of the Alabaster City Council during a brief June 2 meeting warned those planning to attend the Alabaster CityFest on June 4 to prepare for blazing temperatures.

National Weather Service forecasts for June 4 call for a sunny day with a high of about 97 degrees with a relative humidity of between 37-73 percent during the festival hours.

“CityFest is a tremendous thing for the city of Alabaster,” said Ward 6 Councilman Scott Brakefield. “But everyone needs to drink plenty of water out there, because it’s going to be a scorcher.”

Ward 5 Councilman and Council President Jim McClain pointed out members of the Alabaster fire and police departments will be on hand at the festival to administer first aid and help anyone affected by the heat.

“It’s going to be hot out there,” McClain said. “If you see anyone struggling with the heat, be mindful that the fire department and police department will be out there.”

The festival, which will be held at Alabaster’s Municipal Park, will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 11 p.m.

In other business, the council scheduled a public hearing for the council’s June 16 meeting to discuss the possibility of changing the council’s regular meeting days from Thursdays to another day of the week.
