For the third-straight year, the University of Montevallo fell short to the University of West Florida in the men’s soccer Gulf South Conference Tournament.

Despite out-shooting West Florida, 19-13, Montevallo fell, 2-0, to the Argos one week after knocked off West Florida at home in the regular season by the same score.

Nolan Intermoia put the Argos on the board in the 11th minute with an unassisted goal.

West Florida fell a man down in the 56th minute when Paul Wiloughby picked up his second yellow card. Montevallo pressured the packed-in West Florida defense, firing off three-straight shots in the 57th minute, but was unable to even the score.

The Argos added insurance in the 82nd minute with a goal by Richard Dixon.

UM collected three shots on goal in the final minutes, but all efforts were stopped by UWF goalkeeper Thomas Olmsted, who had nine saves in the match. David Esser had five saves for Montevallo.

The GSC title was the third-straight for West Florida (15-3-2) and sixth in program history. Montevallo, who won the title in 1999 and 2004, appeared in its ninth GSC final, the most by any GSC team.

Both teams are expected to advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The first round is expected to be played at Lynn University.
