Lott leaves LSU for Samford

Former Briarwood Christian defensive end J.D. Lott recently signed to play football at Samford University, after leaving the national champion LSU Tigers in February.

Lott, a 2005 graduate of Briarwood, served as a redshirt for the Tigers in 2006 and was on the scout team during LSU’s national championship season last fall. He is expected to play tight end for the Bulldogs.

Lott, 6-foot-4, 227 pounds, was a three-year starter at Briarwood, helping to lead the Lions to the Class 5A title in 2003. He had 48 tackles and seven sacks as a senior, leading him to all-county honors. He was named to the 2007 Southeastern Conference academic honor roll
