FROM STAFF REPORTS

Hunting season is around the corner and the state is looking to help introduce youth to the tradition of bird hunting.

The Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will host two youth dove hunts in Shelby County, Sept. 15 and 22, as part of its 31-county schedule. Hunters must be less than 16 years old and accompanied by a licensed hunter 25 years or older to participate.

“We encourage bird hunters to pass on the tradition to young people today so that future generations can also learn the enjoyment of the outdoors and dove hunting,” said Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division director Corky Pugh in a release.

Pre-registration begins Aug. 30. For more information, call Phyllis Quinn at the D-3 Wildlife Office at 339-5716
