Daisy Elaine King, 77, of Pelham passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2011. Ms. King, affectionately known as “Tee,” was born on Dec. 14, 1933, in Pelham.

Although deaf and blind from childhood, Tee led a wonderful and inspirational life.

In her youth, she attended The Alabama School for the Deaf and Blind in Talladega, where she learned to communicate through sign language, to read Braille and to live independently. She became a talented craftswoman and enjoyed crochet, making pottery and caning chairs.

For many years, she worshipped at Kingwood Church and in her last years at The Deaf Church at Brook Hills. She maintained a large group of friends and never met a stranger. Her outgoing personality, playful sense of humor and zest for life endeared her to all. She truly saw and heard what most of the seeing and hearing rarely experience. She was a gift to those who were fortunate to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady Hinds King and Alta Johnson King.

She is survived by her brother, James L. King, and his wife, Rose Marie; nephews and nieces, Stephen King (Amy); and children, Matthew and Stewart of Houston, Texas;

Michael King (Leah) and children, Caroline and Catherine of Westfield, New Jersey;

Kathy Dunbar (Paul) and children, Emily, Erin, Andrew and Joseph, of Huntsville; Chris King, of Chicago, Ill.; and Lara Bell (Dan) and children, Emma Rose and Connor, of Johnson City, Tenn.; and special uncle, Pat Johnson (Helen) of Sandston, Va.

The family would like to express special gratitude to our dear friend Ms. Frances Love, the dedicated staffs of Shelby Baptist Medical Center and Shelby Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center and Dr. Lawrence Lee.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, from 1-2 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, with funeral services at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
