Homes for our Troops held its Hometown Heroes Celebration on Sept. 28 at the Hoover Met.

The event highlighted several veterans and their families who had been given houses from Homes for our Troops, which builds mortgage-free, specially adapted homes nationwide for severely injured Veterans Post-9/11.

One of the heroes honored during the event was Alabaster’s Noah Galloway, who lost his left leg and arm during his time of service. Galloway has been an inspiration to people across the country as he performed on shows like Dancing with the Stars and also by being on the cover of Men’s Health magazine.

While Galloway has come a long way since being injured, there are still things he has trouble doing — and that’s where Homes for our Troops came in to help. They created a living space Galloway could maneuver on his own, even when he’s in his wheelchair. Not only will this house be a blessing for him, Galloway also says it will help his three children and fiancee.

Galloway received the key to his new home in Alabaster earlier that morning and says he had to hold back the tears to keep from “ugly crying,” he says with a laugh.

He vowed to repay Homes for our Troops somehow, and that started by including them in his No Excuses Charitable Fund.

Galloway wasn’t the only veteran at the event. The crowd also heard from others and their families about how Homes for our Troops has forever changed their lives.
