Brigham Elise Godfrey, daughter of Vick and Boscoe Godfrey of Birmingham, and Andrew Lee Nail, son of Lee Nail and Kimberly Williams of Birmingham, were married September 26 in Birmingham.

The couple met in a Human Development 101 class during their freshman year of college in 2005 at the University of Alabama. Andrew pretended to need help studying; Brigham quickly realized Andrew was too smart to need any help, but she liked his red hair …so she played along. As they muddled through postconventional moral reasoning together, they decided to go for it and spent the next ten years falling in love.

Brigham and Andrew were married at BridgeStreet Gallery and Loft in downtown Birmingham on September 26, 2015. Surrounded by family and friends, the two said their vows to a candlelit Handfasting Ceremony officiated by Tim Mayhall, a chaplain at St. Vincent’s and close friend. Brigham walked down the aisle in a 1930s inspired cream silk dress to “The Winner Is” by Danna Devotchka. She was given in marriage by her brother, Graham Godfrey, who carried a single lit candle in remembrance of their late father, Boscoe.

The reception that followed was also held at BridgeStreet Gallery in the upstairs loft.  The wedding and reception featured flowers and the artistic endeavors of Christy Downs Todd of CeCe Designs. Magic Muffin provided the three-tiered vanilla raspberry-filled bride’s cake with cream cheese icing and an assortment of pies for the whimsical groom’s pie table. Honey-jar wedding favors were a contribution of Brigham’s grandfather, Clyde Gray, who is a beekeeper in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

There was never a lull in energy or dancing as DJ Sex Panther of Trim Tab Brewery jockeyed a set not soon to be forgotten by all who attended. Brigham and Andrew were sent off from the reception in her father’s yellow Chevy SSR.

“My mother always hated that bright yellow car because it was too ‘garish,’” Brigham said, “but I think that was why my father loved it so much and we can’t seem to part with it, so it only seemed fitting for it to be our get-a-way car for our first car ride as a married couple and tribute to his memory.”
