Several county schools and colleges will close early today due to the threat of inclement weather, including hail, thunderstorms and tornadoes. This list will be updated as we receive new information.
-Shelby County Schools will dismiss at 1 p.m. today. All after-school care and activities are canceled. Buses will run their regular routes early as well.
-Hoover City Schools will close three hours early today. Each school will dismiss three hours early to allow for regular staggered dismissal, according to a press release from Hoover City Schools. Buses will run three hours early and will run their regular routes. All after-school activities are canceled, including athletic events, fine arts events and extended days.
-Jefferson State Community College will close all its locations, including the Shelby-Hoover campus on Valleydale Road, at 1 p.m. today.
-Hilltop Montessori School in Mt Laurel will close at noon today. There will be no after-school care. Parents should pick children up at noon.
-According to the Twitter account of Cornerstone Christian School Director Jay Adams, Cornerstone will close at 12:30 p.m. today. All after-school activities, including practices, athletic events and after-school care have been canceled.
-Kingwood Christian School will close at 1 p.m. All after-school activities are canceled.
-Indian Springs School will close at 11:30 a.m. Day students cannot check out before 11:30 a.m. but should be picked up no later than 11:45 a.m. Buses will leave at 11:45 a.m. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled, and boarding students will be restricted to campus.
-According to reports, Coosa Valley Academy is closed today.
-The University of Montevallo will close at 12:30 p.m. today. There will be no afternoon activities or night classes. All academic buildings will be secured, but residence halls and the cafeteria will remain open. Farmer Hall and Ramsay Hall will be open for use as shelter if needed. The university will reopen Friday, April 12 at 8 a.m.
-The Westminster School at Oak Mountain will close at 12:40 p.m. today. All after-school care is canceled.
-Briarwood Christian School will close at 1 p.m. today. All after-school activities and sporting events have been canceled, with the exception of Briarwood’s prom, scheduled to be held later tonight. Briarwood officials will make a decision about the prom later today based on the weather.
