Georgia team knocks Eagles, Jags out of Dig in the Park

The Oak Mountain High School and Spain Park High School volleyball teams were each knocked out of the Jaguars’ Dig in the Park tournament Oct. 2 by Marist School of Atlanta, Ga.

Spain Park fell 14-25, 13-25 to Marist in the Gold Division semifinals. Oak Mountain lost 25-15, 22-25, 12-15 to Marist in the Gold Division championship match.

The Eagles (43-16) went undefeated in pool play and knocked off Vestavia Hills in the Gold Division semifinals before falling in the championship match.

Samantha Skinner led the Eagles with 69 kills, 22 digs, seven blocks and three service aces in the tournament.

Chelsea Payne led Oak Mountain with a team-high 104 assists to go along with 15 digs. Sara Goodwin chipped in 22 kills and 35 digs.

Emily Cosgrove finished with 24 kills. Marisa Reese recorded 44 digs.

The Jaguars went 3-1 in pool play in the tournament and knocked off Danville in the Gold Division quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals.

Katie Best led Spain Park (19-22) with 32 kills and 33 digs in the tournament.

Sydney Fritz added 24 kills and 29 digs. Kendall Carlis recorded 25 kills and 11 blocks.

McKenna McLain chipped in a team-high 82 assists to go along with 25 digs and eight service aces. Kylie Beaubien recorded 10 blocks and 10 service aces in the tournament.

Thompson defeated rival Pelham 25-23, 25-19 in the Silver Division championship match.

The Warriors defeated John Carroll in the Silver Division semifinals before topping the Panthers in the championship match.

Hailey Schatz led Thompson (14-17) with 31 kills and nine blocks in the tournament.

Haley Davenport added 26 kills and 17 blocks. Kasie Holcomb chipped in 13 digs.
