Thompson caps area play with win over Pelham

ALABASTER — The Thompson High School girls’ basketball team capped Class 6A, Area 10 play with a 57-21 win over rival Pelham in a dominating performance Jan. 28.

The Warriors led their final area contest by 28 points at halftime.

Rachel Lawley led Thompson (10-11 overall, 2-4 in Class 6A, Area 10) with a game-high 14 points.

KaDeisha Stowes added 11 points. Katie Guiser chipped in eight points. Kat Cingoranelli and Chelsea Taylor finished with seven points each.

Megan Hoyt contributed four points. Kristin Wilson and Asia Anchrum finished with three points each.

Erin Whitman and Kristan Cordrey led Pelham (6-13 overall, 0-6 in Class 6A, Area 10) with eight points each.

Marie Williams added three points. Jamekia Dawson contributed two points in the defeat.

Thompson started the game with a 9-0 run and led 18-2 after the opening quarter. The Warriors pushed their lead to 30-2 at the end of the second quarter after Pelham finished without a field goal in the opening half. Whitman hit two free throws in the first quarter for the Panthers’ only points in the opening half.

Whitman scored Pelham’s first field goal in the contest with 7:14 remaining in the third quarter.
