Lions take down Chargers

The Kingwood Christian School girls’ basketball team edged Cornerstone Christian 30-28 in high school basketball action Jan. 23.

Casey Whitmer led the Lions (6-14) with a game-high 12 points in the victory. Whitmer also grabbed eight rebounds in the win.

Madelyn Pearce added nine points, two rebounds and a team-high three steals. Katie Etheridge chipped in six points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Blair Holsombeck contributed three points, three rebounds and a team-high three assists.

Kenzie Greer grabbed three rebounds. Karley Chamblee finished with two rebounds, while Sarah Salmon grabbed one board.

Savanna Upton led Cornerstone Christian (9-10) with 10 points.

BOYS

The Kingwood Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated Cornerstone Christian 60-28 in high school basketball action Jan. 23.

Daniel Fillingim led the Lions (8-12) with a game-high 21 points in the victory. Fillingim, who recorded a team-high four steals and dished out a team-high three assists, also grabbed a team-high 17 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Josh Purvis added 18 points and five rebounds. Charles Robinson chipped in eight points and four boards.

Andrew Whitfield contributed six points and two assists. Jordan Vance recorded three points and two boards.

Jacob Bussey and Jared Stewart finished with two points each. Bussey grabbed five rebounds, while Stewart dished out two assists.

Kendall Moore led Cornerstone Christian (14-6) with seven points.
