Pelham finishes 3-1 at tourney

The Pelham Panthers softball team finished the Wetumpka tourney with a 3-1 record March 8-9.

Pelham (14-2) began the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Wetumpka. Emily Spain pitched a one-hit shutout and struck out seven with one walk. Caitlyn Sapp led Pelham batting 2-for-3 with two doubles.

The Panthers tallied eight runs in the third inning to take a 10-1 win over Mountain Brook. Kristian Foster led the way batting 4-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Rebekah Fox picked up the win allowing one run on four hits with nine strikeouts.

Pelham scored five runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-0 win over Saint James March 9. Spain pitched a no-hitter while striking out two. Foster and Sapp each hit a home run in the victory.

The Panthers ended play in the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Oak Mountain. Whitney Gillespie allowed two runs on two hits with five strikeouts in the loss.
