Belles host Gatsby Takes Helena ball
By LAURA BROOKHART/Community columnist
The Cahaba Lily Chapter of the Helena Belles invite you to their second annual ball, “Gatsby Takes Helena” on Saturday, March 1, from 7-11 p.m. at the Helena Community Center.
This year’s semi-formal eveningwear is to be 1920s themed attire.
A full buffet plus a jazz band, DJ and dancing will be a part of the festivities as well as raffles and door prizes. There will also be a photo booth and T-shirts for sale. An after party will be held at Rio’s with happy hour prices all night with your ticket stub.
The Helena Belles have a long list of noteworthy projects from the past year including: Cureleaders for Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure; making and selling bracelets benefitting Relay for Life; Grace House for Girls Educational Workshop; volunteering at Camp Smile-A-Mile benefitting Childhood Cancer; tutoring at Grace House Home for Girls; collecting jeans for “Teens for Jeans” benefitting Homeless Teens, sponsored by Aeropostale; and volunteering with Aaron’s Staff to give parents with special needs children a night out.
“The entire community is invited to this event,” founder Amy Bolt said. “There is still plenty of time for sponsorships or for the purchase of a corporate table.”
“There are many ideas and examples on the Helena Belles Facebook page, as well as on Pinterest, to give you ideas for your evening clothes! People are finding their attire online, at department stores and consignment stores, given that the Gatsby theme is so popular at this point in time.”
“We sincerely appreciate the support of the community and are looking forward to this amazing event,” she added.
Catch the Helena Belle PSA TV spot on Feb. 24 on Talk of Alabama.
Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple. Corporate tables seat 8 and cost $300. Cash/check donations are accepted and tax-deductible.
This ball benefits the Helena Belle Scholarship Fund for Senior High Belles and tickets can be purchased from any Belle or at Helenabelles.com.
