Chelsea C.O.P. members honored for service

The following is a list of awards and recipients for the 2014 year:

•Perfect attendance at monthly C.O.P. meetings in 2014 – Eddie Huggins, Pat McDanal, John Peacock, Bill Robertson and Jim Thornton.

•150 hours or more of patrol time in 2014 – Eddie Huggins, Alicia Johnson, Donald Shirley, Pat McDanal, Joe Murphy, Martha Coffey, Mike Cooley, Joel Dauber, Bill Robertson, Roberta Dauber and Jim Thornton.

•Program training award – Pat McDanal, Mike Cooley and Bill Robertson.

•Phase 2 training completed – Linda Powers, Hoyt Picklesimer and Jess Rawls.

•1,000 or more hours of patrol time since joining the C.O.P. – Martha Coffey, Joel Dauber, Bill Robertson and Roberta Dauber.

•Five-year service recognition award – John Peacock, Mike Cooley, Patricia Hipps, John Devenyns and Tommy Holcombe.

•10 or more incident reports for 2014 – Bill Weldon, Eddie Huggins, Sallie Williams, Donald Shirley, Pat McDanal, Joe Murphy, John Peacock, Joel Dauber, Bill Robertson, Roberta Dauber, Jim Powers and Jim Thornton.

•Recognition for one of the advanced training courses – Jay Jerman, Alicia Johnson, Bill Weldon, Eddie Huggins, Sallie Williams, Donald Shirley, Pat McDanal, Judy Cain, Joe Murphy, Dale Neuendorf, Jack Gay, Mike Echols, Martha Coffey, John Peacock, Mike Cooley, Patricia Hipps, Tommy Holcombe, Matt Mellen, Joel Dauber, Bill Robertson, Roberta Dauber, Jim Powers, Jim Thornton and Linda Powers.

•Recognition for completing a GMC approved course – Jay Jerman, Bill Robertson and Jim Thornton.

•Rookie Volunteer for 2014 – Jim Thornton.

•Volunteer of the Year 2014 – Bill Robertson.

Thornton shared C.O.P. accomplishments for the year, including the addition of three new members, a new patrol vehicle bringing the group’s total number of vehicles to four, making 268 patrols, driving nearly 10,000 miles to average 38 hours of patrol, touching on 5,776 patrol points throughout the city and conducting 142 business walk-throughs.

Whiskers catered the dinner, and The New Hootneers provided live music entertainment.

Along with Samaniego, other SCSO employees, Chelsea City Council members, city employees and members of the Birmingham and Montgomery police departments attended the dinner.
