PELHAM — Bevelle Café, formerly located in Alabaster, is now open at its new location in Pelham, and business is booming.

The café, which specializes in “soul food” and has been in operation for nearly 30 years, is now located at 3548 Pelham Parkway.

According to owners Eddie and Angela Bevelle, it was primarily customer demand for expansion that led to the move.

“(Customers were) every day saying to us, ‘Y’all need a bigger place.’ My wife and myself would always respond with, ‘We are waiting on God to lead us to the right place,” Eddie Bevelle said. “Now the new demand is not ‘Y’all need a bigger place,’ it is, ‘Y’all need more seats.’”

The primarily meat-and-two-veggies café serves a variety of items including fried chicken, baked pork chops, candied yams, homemade mash potatoes, collard greens, fresh fried okra, rutabagas, fresh squash, cabbage, black-eyed peas, homemade mac and cheese and made-from-scratch cornbread. The most popular dishes, however, are the turkey and dressing and the hot banana pudding, Bevelle says.

The Bevelles expressed appreciation to their customers for their advice and support, which they have taken to heart.

“We would like to say thank you to everyone that called, sent emails, popped up, prayed for us and encouraged (or) demanded us to hurry up and open,” Bevelle said. “Everyone enjoys dining in, and several groups that meet have told us that. We are locked in as their favorite new location to meet and eat.”

Bevelle Café’s business hours are Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
