NORTH SHELBY – The Oak Mountain Eagles are on the coaching hunt after they moved on from girls basketball coach Beth Parmer.

Oak Mountain High School announced on Thursday, April 4 that it has begun a search for a new varsity girls basketball head coach according to a social media post.

Parmer served as the Eagles girls basketball head coach for the past six seasons after joining the program as an assistant coach in the 2017-18 season.

She led Oak Mountain to three straight Sweet 16 appearances from 2019-2021 after finishing as the area tournament runner-up in each of those seasons.

The Eagles posted just one winning season under Parmer in 2018-19. They managed just seven wins in each of the last two seasons, including a 7-22 record in 2023-24 with a 1-5 mark in area play.

Before coaching at Oak Mountain, Parmer spent one season as the head coach of John Carroll Catholic’s varsity girls basketball team.

This is the second head coaching vacancy at Oak Mountain High School this season after varsity volleyball coach Grace Burgess left to become the head coach at Homewood following the Eagles’ run to the Sweet 16 in 2023.

Those interested in the position can email a resume to OMHS athletic director Chris Blight at cblight@shelbyed.org.
