The Oak Mountain High School girls’ basketball team soared back following a defeat to Hoover early in the week to beat Pelham 36-30 in a Class 6A, Area 10 contest Jan. 21.

The Panthers and Eagles both featured a suffocating defense the entire game, which made every basket an effort. However, a 13-6 fourth-quarter edge was just enough for Oak Mountain to pull out the victory.

Eighth-grader Madison Pierce led Oak Mountain (16-5 overall, 3-1 in Class 6A, Area 10) with 13 points. Pierce also grabbed three rebounds in the victory.

Hannah Griffin finished with 11 points, four steals and three rebounds. Mackenzie Garmany added six points and two steals. M.K. Shealy, who had only three points, led the Eagles with six rebounds.

Sydney Days and Jamekia Dawson led Pelham (6-11 overall, 0-4 in Class 6A, Area 10) with seven points each.

Carlie Walker contributed six points in the loss.
