A strong defensive showing and an explosive offense led the Hope Christian Eagles to a 52-0 win over the Georgia/Alabama Christian School Lions in Phenix City Aug. 27.
The Eagles’ defense was led by Caleb Rettig, Glyn Glover and Andrew Whitson, each with eight tackles, and Jacob Medders and Ryan Gibbens, each with seven tackles.
Hope scored twice in the first quarter on a 45-yard pass from quarterback Zac Hughes to Terrence Moore and a 5-yard Hughes run. Hughes and Eric Spence each scored on two-point conversions.
Second-quarter scores came on a 65-yard reception by Andrew Bell, a 2-yard Hughes run and a 44-yard reception by Caleb Douglas. Hughes and Spence added two-point conversions.
In the second half, Moore scored on a 41-yard reception, and Spence ran the ball in from 9 yards out. Issac Hughes added a two-point conversion after Moore’s touchdown, bringing the final score to 52-0.
“We geared up for a tough battle before we came down here,” said Hope head coach Mark Rettig. “Our guys went down prepared for this.
“We had a good night. Our defense was definitely more aggressive than they were last week,” Rettig added. “I’m proud of them.”
